How much would it cost to backpack through these countries?

My friend and I are hoping to backpack in 2013 through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and end in Burma. We’re hoping to do this for two months. We would mostly camp where possible and stay in cheap, small hotels. Roughly how much would this cost (without airfare or equipment cost)?

I know this is pretty vague and can vary, but an estimate would really help before we can start planning anything. Thanks!

You can do this very inexpensively. Camping out is not a great idea but you can find lodging in the $5 to $10 dollars a night just about every where. Its cleaner, safer and better in so many ways other than camping out. You will see.
As long as you stay out of western bars and restaurants you can eat on less than $10 a day per person. Street food is good, plentiful and in 95% of the cases healthy. The trick here is to always go to the street shop with the most people. the food is fresher because of turn over etc. A good rule of thumb is to eat in places where you can see the kitchen. If it looks unhealthy, go elsewhere.
Your main expenses are going to be travel and Visas. Blow off the airfare between these countries. The bus’s are cheap and regular. the only way to go on a budget.
So How Much? Any where from $2000 to $5,000. You will save lots by sharing your rooms. But the real key is to stay away from the tourist traps and restaurants/bars. that is where most of the money goes. As a rule… Figure $30 to $50 a day.
Good luck.

Tip… instead of staying in cheap hotels Go into Local hostels and spend your nights there.. they are much cheaper than hotels and wil lsave you money

Lower costs by eating out less … unless you really want to try that Local delicacy.

Your trip could Cost around $5000 BUt this is a weak estimate, it is best to completely plan your trip Now and go through what routes you will be taking

Google Other peopels backpacking trips through these areas and you will learn what to do
